Skin & Ageing
Collagen is a type of protein fibre found throughout the body, collagen and hyaluronic acid are responsible for cushioning and supporting connective tissue, making our skin look plump, toned and hydrated. As we age our skin becomes depleted of collagen and hyaluronic acid due to changes in our bodies such as when we are experiencing changes due to the menopause especially in women. This can lead to loss of elasticity and volume in our skin. There are also a number of factors that can increase this process, this includes chemicals from the environment, smoking, excessive amounts of alcohol consumption, poor diet, lack of exercise, dehydration and overexposure to the sun without protection.
There are a number of treatments available that can reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall skin condition when combined with a good skincare regime and diet, this can help to further prevent skin damage and can often produce favourable results in improving skin tone.
